Power transformers bolster isolation, minimize coupling capacitance

The combination of galvanically isolated transformers and line drivers simplifies DC/DC converter design while minimizing common-mode noise coupling

Power Integrations has introduced transformers to complement its SCALE-iDriver family of gate drivers in order to simply the DC/DC converter design for industrial applications. The combination of SIT12xxI transformer and SCALE-iDriver ICs doesn’t require the additional voltage regulation, and it’s fully approved by UL and VDE.

The SCALE-iDriver family of IGBT and SiC-MOSFET driver ICs employs the company’s FluxLink magneto-inductive bi-directional communications technology to ensure reinforced galvanic isolation between the primary and secondary sides. Next, the galvanically isolated SIT12xxI transformers provide the correct voltage and power for these gate drivers.

The SIT1253I transformer with a 5-V input and the SIT1217I transformer with a 15-V input — while both transformers have 25-V output voltage — ideally suit Power Integrations’ 600-V and 1,200-V two-channel SCALE-iDriver gate drivers. The power-supply transformers weigh only 9 grams and require no potting. Moreover, they have passed tests for extended field life and offer high resistance to shock and vibration.

The insulated construction and low coupling capacitance of the new SIT12xxI transformers significantly improve reliability and reduce system cost and development time. These transformers also reduce the qualification and certification time, simplifying the purchasing process.

Available now, the SIT12xxI transformers are priced at $4.00 in quantities of 10,000.
