Powerful graphics cards target servers

The FirePro S9000 and S7000 are said to be the industry’s most powerful dual- and single-slot server graphics cards. The FirePro S9000 is a dual-slot passively cooled GPU that delivers 3.23 TFLOPS of peak single-precision and 806 GFLOPs of double-precision floating-point performance with 264 Gbyte/s memory bandwidth. The card has next-generation Graphics Core Next architecture and intelligent PowerTune and ZeroCore Power technologies.

The board targets rackmount servers, blades, and PCIe 3.0 expansion chassis and features a 6-Gbyte GDDR5 frame buffer. Support for virtualization technologies from Citrix, Microsoft, and VMware make possible installation of multiple graphics cards in a server and support for multiple users. The S9000 takes 225-W maximum power TDP, the S7000 only 150 W. (S7000, $1,249; S9000, $2,499 — availability not given.)
