Precision resistors withstand high temperatures, radiation-rich environments

VPG’s SMR3Z1 foil resistor delivers low EMF, low TCR, low noise, and long-term stability

VPG Foil Resistors, a product group of Vishay Precision Group, Inc., launched its new SMR3Z1 high-precision molded surface-mount resistor featuring Z1 Foil Technology and flexible terminations. The SMR3Z1 features low thermal electromotive force (EMF), a low temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR), low noise, and a non-measurable voltage coefficient.

The Z1 Foil Technology delivers greater stability and protection against harsh environmental conditions for applications such as medical, industrial, military, aeronautics, and deep-sea and space exploration. A solid alloy is matched to the ceramic substrate using polyimide bonding, providing the resistor with “superior” adhesion strength and improved protection against moisture.

These properties, coupled with its low absolute TCR, make the SMR3Z1 well-suited for applications that must withstand high temperatures and radiation-rich environments such as down-hole exploration and well logging and deep-sea underwater repeaters in transoceanic communications, said VPG.

All VPG Foil Resistors offer a range of resistance values and can be manufactured with any value within that range at any tolerance and at no additional cost or delay. The SMR3Z1’s molded package design, coupled with its flexible terminations, reduces stress transference and decreases the likelihood of the printed circuit board cracking or delaminating due to thermal shock.
