Chicago, April 15, 2010 –Premier Farnell plc (LSE:pfl), the leading multi-channel, high service electronics distributor supporting millions of engineers and purchasing professionals globally, announced today that its businesses in the Americas (Newark, element14, MCM, TPC Wire & Cable & Akron Brass), have joined a select group of companies and institutions known as e-Stewards® Enterprises, who have committed to use electronics recyclers that meet the world’s highest standards for responsible recycling.

Premier Farnell has earned a number of accolades for its environmental program aimed at reducing energy consumption and decreasing the overall environmental impacts of its own operations. “We have pledged to use e-Stewards recyclers to assure that our computer-related electronic waste will be responsibly recycled, and will not be exported to developing countries,” comments Ken Manchen, Corporate Director, Safety, Health & Environment Affairs, Premier Farnell, Americas. “E-steward recyclers submit to third party verification audits, and e-steward standards are the best in the business.

The e-Stewards Recycler Certification standard ensures that recyclers will never export hazardous e-wastes to developing countries, dump them in municipal landfills or incinerators, or use prison populations as labor.
