Print Digital Pics on the Go

Portable photo lab prints Polaroid-esque digital pics

Like everything else in the world, photography is always changing—and the dramatic shift from film to digital photography has left photo buffs scrambling to find ways to utilize digital tech in ways that keep some of the original beauty of analog photos. And let’s face it, emailing your friend that killer photo of a sunset or an otter (or whatever people take iPhone photos of; mine’s pretty much pictures of my puppy) doesn’t pack quite the same punch as giving them a physical photo that they can frame somewhere.

Now thanks to a Kickstarter campaign, photo buffs can purchase the Impossible Instant Lab, a portable device that turns your digital photos into instant analog prints. It looks like a souped-up versions of the now-ancient Polaroid cameras, which is exactly the kind of pictures it prints.

As Polaroid stopped production way back in the Dark Ages of 2008, the Impossible Project found a way that creates instant prints exactly like their old instant prints. Funded through Kickstarter last year, their device is paired with an iOS app that allows users to instantly print out their iPhone photos, which develop nearly instantaneously once they come out. The Lab is battery powered for portability purposes, and the only money required aside from its initial price of $299 is the $20 dollars the user would spend on occasionally replenishing the Lab’s film.

The Lab is also extremely lightweight and can be folded down to fit into your bag, so you can take it pretty much anywhere. It makes a great gift, if you’re still scrambling to get in some holiday shopping, and it’s pretty much guaranteed that everybody will love it. Who doesn’t love vintage pictures? Which is apparently what Polaroids are considered now. Whoa.
