Adidas is really, really trying to make Instagram into a fashion statement, literally. The shoe company has come up with a new way to share Instagram photos, by allowing users to print any picture they want onto a pair of their sneakers.
According to a statement on its own Instagram page, Adidas is planning to launch a new mobile app that will allow you to custom-print any photo you like onto their sneakers. The app will be available for both iPhone and Android, and is set to come out sometime this August.
The mobile app is part of the company’s “mi adidas” campaign re-launch, and will be an available option for any style of Originals lifestyle shoes, excepting their sports shoes. Whether the app will add to the price of the shoes is unclear at the moment, though that information should be incoming soon.
Adidas has already suggested some custom-print ideas for your sneakers on its website, including a deluxe hamburger and cherry blossom patterns. Their Instagram post had already gotten over 42,000 likes by Tuesday, which seems to indicate the campaign will be successful.
While it’s been possible for a couple of years to customize phone cases and the like with social media photos, this is the first time somebody has thought to print them on shoes. We’ll have to wait until August to see if that thought was good or bad.
