Pro audio converters enable easy integration

Cirrus Logic’s audio converters enable pro audio product OEMs to easily integrate and customize their products for an improved audio experience.

Cirrus Logic, Inc. has announced its newly “rearchitected” Pro Audio family of audio converters with the initial launch of high-performance, low-power analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). This will be followed later this year with the introduction of digital-to-analog converters (DACs) and an audio codec.

Based on a process optimized for analog performance and digital density, the pro audio devices claim high performance, industry-leading low power consumption and system-level enhancements, such as hybrid gain control, to solve common industry audio problems and deliver a true transparent audio experience.

The company describes true transparency as the “truest reproduction of audio sound from instrument to ear.”

The first products introduced are a series of three ADCs that provide transparent audio conversion in a device that is simple to use and integrate, said Cirrus Logic. This is attributed to a simple control scheme together with a single power rail and flexible clocking configuration.

The new lineup includes the CS5302P stereo ADC, CS5304P 4-channel ADC and CS5308P 8-channel ADC. They are designed to be used in digital mixers, USB audio interfaces, home audio and audio video receivers, musical instruments such as synthesizers, DJ mixers and amplifiers, video recording and automotive applications.

The 32-bit resolution ADCs support differential analog input with sample rates up to 768 kHz. They use a 5th-order, multibit sigma-delta modulator followed by digital filtering and decimation to provide a dynamic range of 126 dB for the CS5302P and 123 dB for the CS5304/8P. THD+N for all products is below -110 dB.

The company’s hybrid gain control is said to redefine microphone front-end gain design to reduce pop noise and simplify the customer’s system design, when compared to existing solutions. “By co-locating the analog and digital gain states within one device, gain transactions between the two are matched,” said Cirrus Logic.

With this feature customers can retain their existing mic preamp design as a product differentiator while reducing the overall system complexity. It can be used in all mic-pre gain control applications, such as digital mixing consoles and USB audio interfaces for digital audio workstations.

Samples of the CS5302/04/08P ADCs are available now. The converters are controllable and configurable using Cirrus Logic’s SoundClear Studio software, which is available at www.cirrus.com. Samples of the DACs and codec will be available to order in December 2023.
