Processor accelerates communication apps

The XLS208 1-GHz dual-core multithreaded processor targets accelerated packet-oriented and control plane applications. The 90-nm process part has eight vCPUs fine-grain processing threads from two MIPS64-compatible CPU cores with 32-Kbyte instruction and data L-1 caches.

Also included on the chip are a 512-Kbyte level-2 banked cache, a 1-Gbit/s autonomous security acceleration engine, a memory controller supporting 32/36/72b DDR2, quad GbE MACs with network accelerators, and quad PCI-Express controllers. (From $40 ea/high volume — available now.)
