Infineon Technologies AG has expanded its EiceDRIVER product portfolio with the release of the 6EDL7141 three-phase gate driver IC for advanced motor control in battery-powered consumer and industrial applications. Aimed at delivering higher power density and improved system efficiency, the programmable solution for advanced motor control applications is packaged in a 48-pin VQFN with a 7 × 7 mm² footprint. When combined with Infineon’s power MOSFETs, the devices offer a complete solution for customers.
Key features of the EiceDRIVER 6EDL7141 include an SPI interface for gate drive outputs configuration, an integrated power supply, and dual charge pumps to supply all system functions. Thanks to an operating voltage range from 5.5 to 60 V and a configurable driving current up to 1.5 A, the device can drive a wide range of MOSFETs. It also offers an adjustable gate driver supply voltage setting between 7 V, 10 V, 12 V and 15 V.
The integrated buck regulator requires only an external capacitor and inductor to provide power for both the microcontroller and the Hall sensors in the motor, said Infineon, which reduces board space and the number of external components required.
Thanks to its built-in dual charge pumps, the 6EDL7141 is able to maintain the gate drive even at low battery voltage, said Infineon. It also features an adjustable gate drive configuration, with several current levels and timing options to control the slew rate and minimize system electromagnetic interference (EMI). All of the 6EDL7141 settings can be changed with the available GUI.
The 6EDL7141 also provides several protection features to protect against fault conditions. These include over-current protection, under-voltage lockout, temperature warning and shutdown, configurable watchdog, rotor locked detection, and memory fault.
Applications range from cordless power and gardening tools to automated guided robots, drones, and robotics. The EiceDRIVER 6EDL7141 motor control gate driver IC will be showcased at Infineon’s exhibitor platform at Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC) 2021, June 14-17.
Earlier this year, Infineon released the iMOTION SmartDriver series of smart motor controllers with a three-phase gate driver that can drive a variety of MOSFETs and IGBTs.
