PSMA sponsors industry session on energy harvesting at APEC 2017

ExperienceAPEC2017

At APEC 2017, the PSMA's (Power Sources Manufacturers Association’s) Energy Harvesting Committee will host an Industry Session featuring five industry experts who will cover such topics as real-world applications, conditional monitoring, energy harvesting systems, PMICs (Power Management ICs) and low-power IoT (Internet of Things) devices. The Energy Harvesting Session (IS16) will be held on Thursday, March 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at the Tampa Convention Center.

The key message of the session is that energy harvesting has moved out of the lab and into real life. Energy harvesting presents a major opportunity for the power electronics industry, from components (batteries, ICs, magnetics, semiconductors, etc.) to systems (e.g., wearable devices, building energy management, assisted living, environmental monitoring, security, transportation). But to fully exploit this opportunity, and to make energy harvesting more mainstream, stakeholders need to work more closely to get energy harvesting solutions working reliably in actual applications.

This industry session attempts to accelerate such engagement by providing an overview of the considerations, applications, constraints and trade-offs that need to be taken into account. The session will include a 30-minute slot for live and hands-on demonstrations, many of which will relate to the speaker presentations.

The PSMA Energy Harvesting Committee Chair Mike Hayes and Co-Chair Doug Osterhout have geared the session for a wide audience, including potential collaborators and adopters of energy harvesting for the self-powering of ultra-low-power applications, as well as those want to eliminate the need for a battery or storage device replacement in low-power devices. Industrial and academic developers of material and devices (both active and passive) also will find this session helpful in understanding application requirements.

In addition to registering for the Energy Harvesting session, APEC attendees are encouraged to participate in the many other informative and timely PSMA-sponsored Industry Sessions taking place during the show.

PSMA Energy Harvesting Committee Meeting Notice

All APEC attendees are invited to attend the PSMA Energy Harvesting Committee meeting, scheduled for 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 am. (Tampa Convention Center, Room 32) on Tuesday, March 29th .
