Quad 16-bit D/A is fastest available

The DAC38J84 4-channel 2.5 G samples/second D/A converter is said to be 66% faster than any other available quad device. It features an 8-lane JEDEC JESD204B standard serial interface. The pin-compatible 2-channel DAC38J82 also runs at 2.5 G.

The 144-ball flip-chip packaged device includes multi-band summation that allows two complex carrier blocks to be mixed to the desired frequency before being summed together for a single path complex transmit. It also has 2x to 16x digital interpolation filters and a 48-bit numerically controlled oscillator. It takes only 1.1 W at the common wireless base station operation of 1.474 Gs/s, and only 1.6 W at 2.458 Gs/s. There are pin-compatible 1.6 Gs/s versions available. DAC38J84, $120 ea/1,000; DAC38J82, $70 ea/1,000.
