The demand for increased system resolution and speed is increasing the number of A/D converters in space-constrained multichannel applications, such as medical imaging systems and wireless communications base stations. Because these systems are constantly becoming smaller, manufacturers need to find new ways to fit more converters into tight spaces.

The 12-bit 65-Msample/s AD9229 quad A/D converter was introduced this past October (see Electronic Products , Dec. 2003, p. 50) as the first to address the need. The serial LVDS output feature of the part reduces the interface complexity compared with the discrete 12-bit parallel output converters used in previous solutions.

Housed in a 48-pin LFCSP, the part consumes 22 mW when operating at 3 V. (From $8.50 ea/1,000�available now.)
