Quad CDR chip enables 10G/40G/100G communication systems

Capable of handling all SFP+ formats including passive copper modules for up to 20 m, the VSC8248 clock and data recovery (CDR) IC has four CDR channels with electronic dispersion compensation, four transmit channels, and control circuitry for managing downstream modules. The IC provides high-speed connectivity for backplanes, line cards, and optical fiber or copper cables.

The 16 × 16-mm FCBGA121-packaged device handles 1 to 11.3-Gbit/s data with integrated diagnostics and fault isolation and VScope remote waveform-viewing technology. It has fully compliant 10GBase-KR output drivers and is compliant to 10-Gbit/s SFP+ 10GBASE-SR/LR/LRM, SFF-8431, 8.5 G Fibre Channel FC-PI-4 and 100GBase-CR12/SR12, 40GBase-CR4/SR4/LR4 specifications.
