The MAX5965 PSE controller meets IEEE 802.3at and IEEE 802.3af standards, allowing multiport PoE systems to deliver up to 45 W across standard Cat5 Ethernet cable to power IP phones, wireless LAN access nodes, and IP cameras. It is pin- and function-compatible with the MAX5945/LTC4258/LTC4259A 802.33af quad PSE controllers, and allows 802.3af PSE system upgrades for higher power.
The PSE controller operates from 32 to 60 V, and is rated for 80 V max. It provides 802.3af PD discovery and classification, and offers Class 5 and 6 classification for detection of high-power PDs. The device also supports both dc and ac load-disconnect detection methods. The gate-charging current, current-limit threshold, startup timeout, overcurrent timeout, and auto-restart duty cycle are all programmable. (From $4.54 ea/1,000 — available now.)
