Quad serial FPDP cards provide high throughput
The FibreXtreme SL100/SL240 quad-channel serial front-panel data port (FPDP) cards deliver sustained data rates of up to 247 Mbytes/s on each channel. The PCI or XMC mezzanine-format cards connect distributed devices through a highly specialized communications protocol (VITA 17.1-2003) optimized for throughput and provide a PCIe x8 host bus and 256 Mbytes of DDR2 SDRAM.
The rugged cards provide a dedicated, point-to-point or broadcast data link with a transmitting card, and one or more receiving cards separated by as much as 50 km. They offload a host processor and reduce non-deterministic latencies. Their DMA engine handles single transactions up to 64 Mbytes, and they use a Stratix II GX FPGA to obtain 2.5-Gbit/s transmission rates on the SL240 or 1.062-Gbit/s on the SL100.
