The Virtex-5QV FPGA is a rad-hard, high-density, reconfigurable FPGA for space and aerospace/defense applications. The device has 130,000 logic cells, 320 DSP slices supporting fixed and floating point operations, and 836 user I/Os programmable to more than 30 different standards.

The chip is the first rad-hard (rather than rad-tolerant) device of this type and features a 450-MHz clock speed and 18 3-Gbit/s serial transceivers. Built on a 65-nm copper process, the Virtex-5QV provides exceptional hardness to single-event-upset, total immunity to single-event latchup and data path protection from single-event transients, while maintaining compatibility with the commercial-grade device.
