Company acquisitions
Anadigics, a Warren, NJ-based provider of semiconductor solutions in the broadband wireless and wireline communications markets, announced that it has acquired the RF design team from Fairchild Semiconductor for $2.3 million. The acquisition will further accelerate Anadigics’ design and development of RF active semiconductor devices for the 3G Cellular, Wi-Fi, and WiMAX markets.
In addition, MediaTek of Taiwan signed an agreement to acquire the assets related to Wilmington, MA-based Analog Devices’ radio and SoftFone chipset product lines as well as certain cellular handset baseband support operations. MediaTek will gain approximately 400 ADI engineers and customer support people (about 100 in the U.S.) in addition to ADI’s relevant patent portfolio. MediaTek also gains an architectural license for ADI’s worthy Blackfin DSP chip employed in the SoftFone product line. The sale is expected to close by the end of 2007.
IRF announces management changes
International Rectifier (El Segundo, CA) announced that Alex Lidow, CEO and director, has gone on leave of absence with pay, pending the resolution of the previously announced investigation conducted by the audit committee of the company’s board. The board determined that this action was in the best interests of the company and no conclusion has been reached by the audit committee that Dr. Lidow has engaged in any wrongful conduct. Dr. Lidow remains a member of the company’s board of directors. Donald R. Dancer, the company’s executive vice president, general counsel, and secretary, has been designated by the board as acting CEO.
