Ref design enables 1 to 20 Gbit/s home gateways

As Gigabit-class Internet service becomes increasingly common worldwide the home gateway needs to catch-up. The base version of the Broadband Gateway Reference Design (LS1012A-RDB) uses the 9.6 x 9.6 mm single Cortex-A53 core QorIQ LS1012A 64-bit processor for 1 Gbit/s fiber-to-the-home connections – with the CPU using only 1 W, typical.

The top version uses the quad Cortex-A72 core LS1046 processor – capable of handling 20 Gbit/s connections. There are five versions total, all sharing common build environments, APIs, and software. building on the OpenWrt operating system, all versions offload packet processing to a power-efficient hardware accelerator, enabling dramatic boosts in throughput and quality of service, while freeing CPU resources for value-added applications and services. All versions available Q2.
