Regulators offer fast transient response, high efficiency across load range
The SC173 and SC174 buck regulators use a patented adaptive on-time architecture to achieve best-in-class performance in dynamic POL applications, and enable fast transient response and high efficiency across light-to-full-power loads. They suit office automation, networking, and communications equipment; set-top boxes; portable products; power supply modules; and other embedded products.
The SC173 and SC174 converters use an advanced control loop to dynamically adjust the on-time-based input voltage and output voltage. This enables a pseudo-fixed frequency operation with ±15% accuracy and predictable EMI comparable to conventional voltage-mode and current-mode topologies, and better than constant on-time and hysteretic architectures. The converters are programmable from 200 kHz to 1 MHz and have a 3 to 5.5-Vin and a 3-A (SC173) or 4-A (SC174) output current. They feature an ultrasonic power-save (UPSAVE) mode that lowers the switching frequency and reduces the switching losses associated with the power FET gate charge, resulting in up to 95% peak-standby efficiency.
