Relays target alternative-energy markets

Surprisingly small parts can switch high voltages

Two high-voltage high-current power relays (FTR-J2 and FTR-K3) and one low-profile power latching relay (JSL) are intended for energy management applications in solar-powered systems and smart-power meters.

Relays target alternative-energy markets

The FTR-J2 handles 450 V at 10 A, and incorporates a strong permanent magnet and 2-mm contact gap to eliminate arcing and ensure the safety of the relay. Measuring just 24 x 23.5 x 27 mm, it uses a 4,000-Vac dielectric. The FTR-K3-WG handles 250 V at 10 A, has a 1.5-mm contact gap, and a 5,000-Vac dielectric.

The small-footprint,low-profile (29.3 x 10.3 x 12.8-mm) JSL latches at 250 Vac at up 8 A and has a 5,000-Vac dielectric. The J2 and K3 power relays can also be used in electronic vehicles and as a replacement for power conductors and power FETs. The low-profile JSL latching relay is also suitable for power-saving applications in printers and copy machines. (Ea/10,000: J2, $10; K3, $3; JSL, $3 available now.)
