Renesas Electronics Corp.  is expanding the integration of Microsoft Azure  RTOS to its broader RA  and RX microcontroller and RZ/A microprocessor lines, starting with the new Renesas RA flexible software package (FSP). Currently, Azure RTOS (formerly ThreadX RTOX) is integrated with the Renesas Synergy software package (SSP) for out-of-the-box connectivity to the Azure IoT hub.

Renesas recently introduced the new RA MCUs , which are designed to help engineers develop IoT endpoint and edge devices for industrial and building automation, metering, healthcare, and home appliance applications. The RA family includes the RA2 Series (up to 60 MHz), RA4 Series (up to 100 MHz), RA6 Series (up to 200 MHz), and the dual-core RA8 Series, to be released later.

The combination of Renesas’ intelligent and secure devices with out-of-the box support for Microsoft Azure IoT building blocks, including Azure RTOS, Azure IoT device SDK for C, IoT Plug and Play, IoT Central and IoT Hub, will provide users with a complete chip-to-cloud IoT solution.

The collaboration is expected to help customers bring their connected devices to market much faster by simplifying secure IoT device development and connectivity.
