RF amplifier family raises the bar on miniaturization

WaferCap CSP device reduces PCB area by more than 50% with almost no signal loss and minimal parasitics

Based on the company’s WaferCap CSP technology, the 1 x 0.5 x 0.25-mm VMMK-2×03 family of RF amplifiers is offered as the smallest of its kind — it uses only 10% of the board area of a standard SOT-343 package, while in some cases it can reduce PCB area by more than 50%. The family offers almost no signal loss and minimal parasitics and is optimized for 500-MHz to 12-GHz frequencies — ideal for a variety of radio architectures.

The family consists of the VMMK-2103, with a frequency range from 0.5 to 6.0 GHz, a gain of 14 dB, and a noise figure of 2.4 dB; the VMMK-2203, with a range from 1.0 to 10.0 GHz and a gain of 15 dB at 5 GHz; the VMMK-2303, from 0.5 to 6.0 GHz, supporting 1.8 to 3.3 V; the VMMK-2403 at 2.0 to 4.0 GHz with a noise figure of 2.5 dB; and the VMMK-2503, from 1.0 to 12.0 GHz with flat gain performance of up to 8 GHz. Additionally, the VMMK-2×03 has all I/Os routed to the backside of the device wafer through via-holes. No special tooling is required for assembly.
