RFID datalogging packets make thermal tracking easy
The MiniNOMAD OM-80 series datalogging system is a quick, easy, and economical way to gather data on the cold chain, for example, the temperatures to which a package is exposed during shipment. The reusable logger packets cost $18 or less when purchased in groups of five or more.
The system consists of the wireless, RFID datalogging packets and a reader/programmer that links to a PC via a USB port. Using included software, the 61 x 43 x 6.4-mm packets can be programmed to take readings from once every second to once every 9 hrs, 6 min, and 7 s. and. The units can store 10,000 readings of temperatures between 40 and 60C, with resolution of 0.1°C and accuracies of ±0.5°C from 0 to 50°C and ±1°C below 0°C or above 50°C.
The packets can be set to record after a user-set delay and can also be activated by pressing a button on the packet. A green LED on the packet lights when the logger is recording and a red LED comes on when user-set high and low temperature limits are exceeded.
After it has completed its trip, the packet can be placed within 50 mm of the reader, or on top of it, and the recorded data read out to the PC. Once activated, the units have a life of two years; their coin-type battery is factory replaceable. Each package of dataloggers comes with a certificate stating NIST traceability. (Logger packets, from $90 for 5; reader, $195 available now.)
