ROM-based module delivers full GNSS algorithm capabilities

Modules target battery-sensitive mass-market tracking and navigation applications

By Carolyn Mathas, contributing writer

STMicroelectronics expanded its global navigation satellite system (GNSS) product offerings with the Teseo-LIV3R  ROM-based module that delivers full GNSS algorithm capability, scalable power consumption, a sub-15-µA standby mode with RTC backup, and support for multiple low-power modes for battery-sensitive applications in mass-market tracking and navigation. These include IoT applications such as drones, goods tracking, anti-theft systems, people and pet location, vehicle tracking and sharing, and fleet management.

The GNSS module features odometer functionality based on three trip counters and reached-distance alert, geofencing capabilities with up to eight configurable circles, and crossing-circles alarm. The features provide uninterrupted positioning data that ensures dependable navigation in real time.

Accurate, high-performance, and low-power, the Teseo-LIV3R GNSS modules are also competitively priced.

The modules provide simultaneous tracking of GPS, Glonass, Beidou, and QZSS constellations with Satellite-Based Augmentation System (S-BAS) and Radio Technical Commission for Maritime Services (RTCM) V3.1, which ensures accuracy within 1.5 meters. Other features include tracking sensitivity of −163 dBm and a faster-than-one-second time-to-first-fix.

Low-power modes include continuous fix with adaptive and power-saving cycled modes, periodic fix with GPS only, and fix-on-demand with the device in permanent standby.

FCC-certified and supported by the STM32 Open Development Environment, STM32 applications for advanced geolocation, smart tracking, and server-assisted GNSS are available. Also available are the EVB-LIV3x evaluation board and X-NUCLEO-GNSS1A1 expansion boards. There is an active ST GNSS community  where designers share information.

The Teseo-LIV3R (9.7 × 10.1-mm LCC18 module) is available in volume production and is priced from $7.30 for orders of 1,000 pieces.
