RS-232 transceiver has data and power isolation

The ADM3251E RS-232 transceiver integrates a line driver and receiver, oscillator, rectifier, regulator, voltage doubler, voltage inverter, and transformers into a single-chip solution that isolates both the data and power lines. The transceiver is based on chip-scale transformers and it’s SMT package allows it to be mounted using fully automated production tools.

The IC complies with industry-standard isolation regulations, including UL1577 and DIN VDE 0884-10, with a 2.5-kV isolation rating. It has a 460 Kbit/s data rate, operates from -40° to 85C and comes in a 13 × 10.6 mm WSOIC20 package. ($2.99 ea./1,000—available now.)
