RS-485/422 receiver is tough, power efficient

The ISL328xE series of single RS-485/RS-422 receivers have excellent IEC61000-level ESD protection (±16.5-kV air gap and ±9-kV contact), low supply current, and small packages. The full-featured chips include 1/8th unit load input resistance (for up to 256 devices on the bus), and fail-safe (open, short, and terminated but undriven) operation.

The receivers have 500-µA max quiescent supply currentsaid to be 1/30th the value of the nearest competitorand versions with an enable pin can be put into a shutdown mode with ICC of 20 µA max. The ISL3280E, ISL3281E, ISL3283E, and ISL3284E come in 3 x 3-mm SOT-23 packages, while the ISL3282E comes in a tiny 2 x 3-mm TDFN package.
