Rugged linear position/velocity sensors sets new speed record

Precision device employs GMR and special antialiasing filtering to detect motion

Offering designers of industrial equipment used in harsh environments the ability to design faster systems with precise motion detection, the #A40-HR 20P linear position and velocity sensor provides data with better than 0.001-in. resolution at speeds up to 200 in./s. The unit is autocalibrating and can sense virtually any stroke length.

The sensor, which consists of a transducer paired with an encoded rod, employs giant magnetoresistance (GMR) technology for signal acquisition, sampling at 2 kHz to detect motion. An antialiasing filter overcomes Nyquist limits to allow precise, contactless sampling at high speeds.

The unit comes in a 0.656 (Dia) x 1.75-in. cylindrical enclosure and has an operating range of –40° to 70°C. Encoded rods are available with 10 and 20 threads/in. as well as 1- and 2-mm pitches. ($450 — available now.)
