Adding to the MiniMax Series of high-density ultra-miniature connectors, a smaller version, the MiniMax 06, has a diameter of just 10 mm and can have up to 12 power and signal contacts. With the addition, the Series is now offered in two sizes, 06 (10 mm) and 08 (12 mm), tested for high-speed protocols such as HDMI and data transfer up to 10 Gbits/s, with standard 0.5-mm contacts. They are said to save up to 45% in terms of space and to reduce weight by up to 75% compared to standard connectors with similar size contacts.
The connector is suited for handheld or body-worn applications in such fields as defense and security, instrumentation, test equipment, and civil or military unmanned aerial. One particular MiniMax 06 configuration — with 2 signal and 2 high-power 1.3-mm contacts — supports applications needing 10 A or more, double the 5-A current rating of the earlier MiniMax products. Intended for harsh applications, these connectors are IP68-rated (mated and unmated) and have an unbreakable keying system, over-molded cable assemblies, and lifetime of 5,000 mating/unmatings. The connector will be commercially available this summer in three locking systems (push-pull, screw, and quick-release) as well as in pre-cabled versions.
