Rugged tablet computer uses Android OS

The Z710 rugged Android tablet computer is designed for extreme work environments and features a 7-in. scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass touchscreen display and MILSTD 810G / IP65 certification for shock, dust, and moisture. The tablet uses a TI OMAP 4430 dual-core 1-GHz processor and has a SiRFstar GPS sensor, 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, and optional barcode reader, RFID reader, and 3G communications.

The 8.5 x 5.6-in. unit is just over 1 in. thick, weighs 1.77 lbs, and comes with a 3-year warranty. It has 1 Gbyte of MDDR, 16 Gbytes of iNAND flash, and a Micro HDSC slot, along with an HD webcam, a 5-Mpixel still camera, and two USB ports. The unit’s 10,24 x 600 display is said to be sunlight readable. (From $1,499; 3G equipped from $1,799 — available starting October.)
