Recent reports have surfaced from the Russian owned United Instrument Manufacturing Corp. highlighting the debut of the Russian military’s new “microwave gun,” a beam weapon capable of disabling UAVs and airborne projectiles from up to 6.2 miles (10 kilometers) away.

“The new system is equipped with a high-power relativistic generator and reflector antenna, management and control system, and a transmission system, which is fixed on the chassis of BUK surface-to-air missile systems. When mounted on a special platform, the ‘microwave gun’ is capable of ensuring perimeter defense at 360 degrees,” explains a spokesman from the Russian-owned Sputnik News network.

To top it off, the microwave gun can fired in all directions with relative ease and is allegedly able to deactivate the equipment of flying aircrafts and disrupt radio frequencies. The weapon is scheduled for a private demonstration between Tuesday and Friday at the Russian Defense Ministry’s Army-2015 expo in addition to its latest military aircraft the Yak-130.

The two technologies are put forth as examples of President Vladimr Putin’s goal to modernize the eastern nation’s military prowess.

A previous demonstration of Russian military prowess from January 2015 showcased what was heralded by Sputnik News as a “premiere combat robot ,” when in fact, it appeared to be a mannequin strapped to a remote controlled ATV. That event, together with the “private demonstrations” of the microwave gun, insights the question of whether or not these “advanced” technologies intentionally wind up appearing as caricatures as form of spreading disinformation over Russia’s true military might.
