SandForce: SSD processor accelerates newest drives
The second-generation SandForce SF-2200 SSD processor features a 6-Gbit/s SATA host interface with an unprecedented sustained sequential read and write performance of 500 Mbytes/s. The chip targets SSDs used in client computing applications and supports state-of-the-art high-speed ONFi2, and Toggle flash interfaces in single-level and multi-level cell NAND flash SSDs, and has enabled a number of new SSDs to attain new performance milestones this past year.
The IC also provides trusted Computing Group OPAL security with 256-bit AES encryption and automatic, line-rate double encryption with a drive-level password. It has an advanced ECC engine correcting up to 55 bits per 512-byte sector to assure high data integrity. The IC optimizes writes to the flash and highly intelligent block management and wear leveling extends flash endurance. PCB layout using the SF-2200 is also enhanced because external DRAM is not needed. SandForce has set a new standard for flash interface. I wonder what the next year will bring.
