SanDisk unveils world’s first 1TB memory card

Now, that’s a ton of storage.

If you need more space, SanDisk has your answer. The leading flash memory products manufacturer revealed an enormously spacious one-terabyte SDXC memory card.

1TB-SanDisk

The announcement comes 16 years after SanDisk’s parent company, Western Digital, introduced the very first SanDisk 64MB SD card. Although the new memory card has a much greater storage capacity, it still manages to remain the same size as the initial one.

The 1TB SD card prototype represents a significant achievement as high-resolution content continues to grow and capacity-intensive applications, including virtual reality, video surveillance, and 360-degree video, are progressing faster than ever. The new device nearly doubled the storage capacity of the company’s rather impressively large 512GB SDXC card, which was released back in 2014.

“Just a few short years ago, the idea of a 1TB capacity point in an SD card seemed so futuristic — it’s amazing that we’re now at the point where it’s becoming a reality,” SanDisk wrote.

While SanDisk did not mention any pricing details or launch dates, the device is expected to be in stores in the near future. Currently, the company is pitching the card to photographers and video professionals who are looking for more storage to meet their needs.

Since the card is still in its prototype stage, the price is unknown. However, the 512 SDXC card sells for $800, so we are guessing the extra space will cost you more.
