SBC provides all-in-one
communication solution
A single-board computer with GSM/CDMA cellular modem, ZigBee, wireless 802.11 Ethernet, 10/100 Ethernet, dial-up modem, six USB ports, six COM channels, and an optional GPS receiver module all on one card may seem a little daunting. But, if the card has reasonable performance and is reasonably priced, you have the opportunity to buy, stock, and maintain only one SBC for all of your control system needs (see Electronic Products , December 2006, p. 90 ).

And the LBC-GX500 SBC has a few other items up its sleeve, including a CRT and digital flat panel video controller and interface, 48 parallel digital I/O lines, keyboard and mouse support, an LPT port, and AC 97 audio plus an optional 12-bit A/D converter. It uses an AMD 500@1W Pentium-class CPU with 32 Kbytes of L1 cache and up to 512 Mbytes of PC2700 DDR SDRAM. The industrial temperature range EBX format card requires +5 V at 1.6 A and costs $695.
