Seagate XM1440 NVMe M.2 format SSD has 960 Gbyte capacity

BY: Jim Harrison

The Nytro XF1440 and XM1440 1.9-Tbyte and 960-Mbyte NVMe SSDs come in 2.5-in. and M.2 formats, respectively. They are optimized for read-intensive and mixed enterprise workloads. The drives feature average active power consumption of just 7 W (9 W for 2.5 in.) and can reach 30,000 IOPS per watt, enabling high levels of computing in a small power envelope.

The drives use a PCIe Gen3 ×4 interface and have end-to-end data protection, including low-density parity-check error correction and RAISE technology — which gives RAID-like data protection and recovery from flash memory failures. The drive also comes with a power loss data protection. Sequential read speed is 2,500 Mbytes/s, while write speeds are either 600 or 900 Mbytes/s. Random read speeds are 240,000 IOPS, while IOPS for write equals 12,000 to 15,000.

The drives come in endurance or capacity optimized versions. Endurance is specified as either 3.0 or 0.3 full writes/day and all versions have an MTBF of 2 M hours. Operating temperature is 0°C to +70°C and both versions are rated for 1,500 G shock (0.5 ms). The M.2 version weighs only 14 g. The drives will be available through channel partners in November 2016.
