Sensor AFE IC and design tool enable design of sensor systems

The LMP91000/LMP90100 configurable sensor AFE ICs and WEBENCH Sensor AFE Designer tool enable the design engineer to select a sensor, design and configure the solution, and download configuration data to the sensor AFE. Unlike today’s customized analog solutions that take weeks or months to develop, the company claims that this solution simplifies and speeds time to market for sensor systems. A typical sensing application that today may require several boards and up to 25 components is reduced to just one of these ICs.

The LMP91000 is offered as the industry’s first fully configurable low-power potentiostat to provide a complete integrated signal path solution between a sensor and ADC, while the LMP90100 is offered as the industry’s first multichannel low-power 24-bit sensor AFE with true continuous background calibration and diagnostics for high performance transmitter and transducer applications.

The LMP90100 also features two matched programmable current sources, 50 to 60-Hz line rejection, guaranteed performance down to 3 V, programmable gain from 1x to 128x, and an output data rate from 1.68 samples/s to 214.65 samples/s. Offered in a 28-pin TSSOP package, the part draws less than 0.7 mA on average, offers a standby power of 9 µW, and operates over –40° to 125°C.

The LMP91000 measures current in a potentiostat that is proportional to the gas concentration and generates an output voltage proportional to the cell current using a transimpedance amplifier. Transimpedance gain is user programmable through an I2 C compatible interface, allowing the LMP91000 to support toxic gas sensitivities over a range of 0.5 nA/ppm to 9.5 nA/ppm. It offers a total current consumption of 10 µA.

A benchtop evaluation tool with a hardware interface, the WEBENCH Sensor AFE Designer allows the user to download configuration data from their design to the sensor AFE, attach sensors and start their evaluation. (Ea/1,000: LMP90100, $4.95; LMP91000, $3.95 — available now.)
