Sensors Expo heads into new territory

Those who are used to spending the first week of June exploring the latest sensor products and practices will find themselves this year in a new venue. In this, its 30th year, Sensors Expo is headed west, opening its doors at the Long Beach Convention Center in southern California on June 9 through 11. And that’s not the only thing the organizers say will be different.

On Tuesday, June 9, new Pre-Conference Symposia this year will include Enabling Smart Systems Through Sensor Fusion, Energy Harvesting for Powering Wireless Sensors in the IoT, and IoT: The Final Frontier for Embedded. The symposium on smart sensor fusion will be organized and chaired by the MEMS Industry Group (MIG) to discuss the benefits of smart sensor fusion. MIG points out that smart sensor fusion has the ability to turn data from several sensors into information for the purpose of improving application or system performance, thereby creating a “smart system.” Presentations and panelists will discuss several applications utilizing sensor fusion including sports/fitness and health/wellness as well as automotive, industrial and environmental. Discussions will touch upon how these applications are feeding into and enabling not only smart systems but also a smart Internet of Things (IoT).

And on Wednesday and Thursday, among the over-65 Technical Sessions, there will be new ones covering wearables and optical sensing/detection, as well as sessions on IoT, MEMS, “Sensors @ Work”, energy harvesting, and wireless. The Expo floor will also be open on Wednesday and Thursday, and will have over 200 exhibitors. For more information about attending Sensors Expo, visit http://www.sensorsexpo.com/
