The W25Q16 16-Mbit flash memory is said to be the industry’s first such device with a quad SPI interface that yields six times faster read performance. Targeting execute-in-place applications in a variety of consumer and industrial applications, the chip comes in space- and cost-saving 8-pin packaging.
The IC supports clock rates up to 80 MHz, enabling an equivalent clock frequency of 320 MHz and a 40-Mbyte/s continuous transfer rate. It also reduces random-access overhead by slashing the number of clocks required per read instruction to 12, from 40. The IC uses a single 2.7 to 3.6-V supply at 4 mA active and less than 1 µA power down. ($0.75 ea/100,000available now.)
