Set-top box IC has SD decoder, security

The STi5107 set-top box chip performs MPEG decoding for standard definition TV and handles the latest security specifications. The device features a 200-MHz clock speed ST20 32-bit RISC CPU core and a 2-D graphics engine.

The LQFP216- or PBGA324-packaged chip also includes a transport demultiplex block with DVB descramblers, an audio/video MPEG-2 decoder, a digital video encoder, and Macrovision copy protection that allows it to be used in cost-effective pay-TV services. Features include a low-cost DVB-CI (common interface) to link it to a removable security module, and support for a single-tuner digital video recorder for high-quality time-shifting.
