Silicon tuner family offers low power

Suited for STBs, DVRs, cable modems, EMTAs, cable gateways, and cable-enabled TVs, the MxL20xRF silicon tuners consume only 400 mW of power each, meaning a four-tuner channel- agile DOCSIS 3.0 system can be built with the power budget of just one competing device, which typically consumes more than 1.6 W of power and has limited capture bandwidth. Measuring only 5 x 5 mm, the devices feature integrated channel filtering and on-chip 94-dB gain.

Based on the company’s digital CMOS process technology, the parts deliver performance in accordance with the ANSI/SCTE40, DOCSIS/EURODOCSIS, and ITU-T J.83 cable industry standards. Housed in 32-pin QFN packages, the tuners can be implemented on simple two-layer PCBs. (Call company for pricing — available now.)
