Simulink adds auto-tuned PID functions

Simulink Control Design 3.0 is equipped with features that automate the process of tuning proportional PID controllers and new PID controller blocks. Users can quickly create controllers, select PID structure, include integrator anti-windup logic, convert from continuous-time to discrete-time domain, and prepare for implementation on a processor using fixed-point arithmetic.

The tuning algorithm calculates PID gains based on desired phase margin and system bandwidth. Also added is functionality for advanced linear analysis and the ability to specify custom linearization. (From $1,000 available now.)
