Single-chip A/D combines high performance and low power
Stereo 18-bit delta-sigma device has a 107-dB SNR and uses 550 mW
The CS5389 is a single-chip stereo 18-bit delta-sigma A/D converter.
Claimed to be the industry's highest-performance such device, it features
a signal-to-noise ratio of 107 dB and a signal-to-noise-plus-distortion
specification of greater than 100 dB. The CS5389 is a complete A/D
converter and requires no external components. In addition to the
delta-sigma modulator, the device includes digital anti-aliasing
filtering, sample-and-hold circuitry, and a voltage reference. The digital
filter has linear phase and a flat magnitude response from dc to 22 kHz,
with stopband rejection greater than 80 dB and passband ripple of 0.01 dB.
The converter supports a variety of sampling rates, including 32, 44.1,
and 48 kHz. Typical power dissipation of the device is 550 mW; a
power-down mode reduces dissipation to 100 μW. The CS5389 is available
in 28-pin plastic DIPs. ($42.80 ea/100–prod qty available second qtr.)
