Single-chip power, digital management makes for easy design work
The Platform Manager is a third-generation mixed-signal device family that integrates programmable analog and logic to support common functions, such as power management, digital housekeeping, and glue logic. This product offers a leap in the thought process when designing power and digital management functions. Typically, designers implemented power and digital management functions using discrete single-function ICs, CPLDs, and FPGAs, as well as resistors and capacitors. Before this product you had to develop a unique solution for each platform management function using multiple single function ICs (from various vendors) making for a large BoM. Now, with this product, you only have a single chip that provides all the needed functions. It allows designers to integrate significant portions of their digital board/power management functions into this single chip. The devices are expected to be used in such applications as wireless infrastructure, networking core equipment, server, data storage, and high-end industrial instrumentation.
The Platform Manager family consists of the LPTM10-1247 and LPTM10-12107. The LPTM10-1247 device can monitor 12 voltage rails and supports 47 digital I/Os, while the LPTM10-12107 monitors up to 12 voltage rails and supports 107 digital I/Os. The devices include a power management section and a digital board management section. The power management section consists of a programmable threshold, precision differential input comparator block with an accuracy of 0.7%, a 48-macrocell CPLD, programmable hardware timers, a 10-bit ADC, and a trim block for the trimming and margining of supplies. The digital board management section consists of a 640-LUT FPGA and programmable logic interface I/O. With this IC, your design tasks just got easier.
