Single-chip SMT LED is brightest yet

Can deliver 250 lm for residential lighting and is available in a broad range of whites, colors

Achieving brightness of up to 250 lm, the Diamond Dragon series surface-mount LEDs come in whites ranging from 2,700 to 6,500 K as well as all monochromatic colors. Said to be the highest-intensity single-chip device to date, the 5 to 8-W-rated LEDs suit indoor and outdoor general lighting — they can be integrated in small spotlights, such as MR-16 bulb retrofits — as well as automotive forward and signal lighting, and other high-performance applications.

The chip’s 175°C max junction temperature makes it extremely robust, while its package, which incorporates a silicone lens, has a thermal resistance of 2.5 K/W to let heat be removed efficiently. The ThinGaN-technology units can withstand high drive currents — binning current is 1.4 A, with a max of 2.0 A — and 50,000 hours is the typical expected life.
