Six-core DSP takes 40% less power at same performance

Six-core DSP takes 40% less power at same performance

Taking just 3.7 W and 0.15 mW/MIPS, the TMS320C6472 power-efficient six-core DSP targets applications where performance/watt is a critical requirement. The chip uses 40% less power than its predecessor, and many applications will not require any external memory, further improving the power profile.

The IC features 4.8 Mbytes of L1/L2 RAM and Gigabit Ethernet, SRIO, DDR2 interface, telecom serial interface port (TSIP), host port interface (HPI), Utopia, and an I2 C bus. Its six processors yield up to 4.2-GHz processing speed and up to 33,600 MMACs while running at 500 to 700 MHz from a 1.0 to 1.2-V supply. The chip comes in a BGA737 package and offers optional –40° to 100°C operation. A complete evaluation kit costs just $349 and is available now. ($140 ea/1,000 — available now.)
