Say goodbye to long lines with the potential of being late to work because of a cup of Joe– Starbucks Coffee Company has just unveiled a Mobile Order and Pay option available on its app for both iOS and Android devices. The new feature allows customers to place and pay for their orders in advance and pick them up at the nearest Starbucks location.
While the coffee chain has been trialing the service for just under a year now, it has only been available in Portland and Seattle, Oregon, and the Pacific Northwest until now. Starbucks introduced its Mobile Order and Pay feature to 7,400 company-owned stores nationwide.
“Bringing Mobile Order and Pay to our customers is about meeting their needs of convenience and customization at any time of the day,” said Adam Brotman, Starbucks chief digital officer. “The fact that it also represents the fastest technology application rollout we have ever done is indicative of the strength of our digital ecosystem, how well it has been received by both our customers and store partners, and the impact we think it can have on the future of retail.”
To use the Mobile Order and Pay feature, one must first download the Starbucks app. From there, the customer chooses a store from the map view, browses through the menu, selects and customizes beverage and food items, views the estimated time it will be ready, and prepays for the order all within the Starbucks app. Menu options highlight different products that may be available based on specific geographic regions and stores. Orders are prepared based on when they come in and customers can pick up their items up in the bar area. It’s that simple.
Starbucks plans to expand its Mobile Order and Pay feature to company-owned stores in the UK and Canada next month.
