The GDT targets small form factor applications that require both high energy withstanding capability. Applications include new telecommunication system designs with miniaturized components, last mile telecommunication equipment such as very fast DSL, industrial RS-485, Power over Ethernet, and home gateways. It provides circuit designers a more compact solution than two separate two-terminal GDTs. The capacitance doesn’t vary with changes in dc and signal voltages helping eliminate distortion effects.
