Small, rugged contacts take 20 A, 12-to-20 AWG wires

With the addition of the 3- and 2-mm versions to the 4-mm model, the 70-9296 series of single poke-home contacts from AVX now accommodates solid or stranded wires ranging from 28 to 12 AWG and current ratings to 20A. The solder pad is designed to provide maximum mechanical stability on a PCB, while the closed-box design with its opposing high-spring-force contacts provides superior wire retention. The complete connector series aims to enable simple, reliable, and solderless wire termination in a broad range of solid-state lighting and industrial applications.

The upper and lower tines of the phosphor-bronze, tin-over-nickel-plated contacts guide stripped wires down the center of the contact zone, and an integral end-stop ensures proper insertion depth. With other features to facilitate SMT pickup and easy wire removal, the  contacts allow smaller, more cost-effective end designs, providing the benefits of a full-function connector while eliminating the labor and materials costs associated with the insulator. Voltage rating is dependent upon placement distance. The RoHS-compliant contacts are rated for −40°C to 125°C as well as five-cycle durability, and are tape and reel packaged for automated SMT placement.
