4-bump UCSP device reduces power consumption to 5μA in shutdown

Capable of driving SD video connections from any portable device to SDTVs, the 1 x 1-mm MAX9515 analog video filter is claimed to consume 30% less board space than competitive active-filter devices and 50% less than passive-filter solutions. The device features the company’s SmartSleep technology which reduces pin count and current consumption to 5 μA in shutdown mode — further making it ideal for low-power space-constrained portable applications.

The device combines an active-filter stage with a video amplifier to band-limit the signal and set the video-output level to drive a TV connection. Traditionally, portable device designers employed either an active- or passive-filter topology (requiring up to five LC components) to support a video output.

The MAX9515’s fifth-order filter features ±1-dB passband flatness up to 9 MHz at 50 dB attenuation at 27 MHz-thereby ensuring signal integrity in ultra-compact designs.

The part only turns on and enters its full operating mode when it detects both video playback and a live connection to the TV. Operating voltage is 2.7 to 3.6 V and temperature range is from −40° to 125°C. (From $0.55 ea/1,000 — available now.)
