Smart 2-Mp imager fits slimmer mobile devices
Said to be the smallest single-chip camera sensor, the VD6725 1/5-in. format 2-Mpixel color imager fits in camera modules smaller than 6 x 6 x 3.8 mm. Combining a UXGA array of 1.75-µm pixels with a high-performance image processor, the single-chip device can capture UXGA video streams at 15 fps or VGA at 30 fps.
The chip provides pixel defect correction, adaptive noise reduction, and sharpness enhancement, as well as anti-vignetting algorithms and automatic white-balance control. It lets users apply special effects such as flipped and mirror-reversed images, B&W conversion for whiteboard capture, document extraction, and barcode reading. Available wafer-level packaging permits production of reflowable camera modules. (About $2 ea/prod qty — samples available now, prod qty June.)
