Housed in a TO-46 package, the MLX90615 IR thermometer delivers a fully calibrated digital temperature reading with absolute accuracy of ±0.1°C in the 36° to 39°C range, suiting it for medical applications. The device integrates a sensor chip with a thin micromachined membrane and a custom signal-conditioning chip containing low-noise amplifiers, a 16-bit ADC, and a DSP.

Resolution is 0.02°C between –40° and 85°C (115°C extended version). Solderable up to 260°C, the RoHS-compliant module runs from a 3-Vdc supply, drawing as little as 2 µA in sleep mode and ≥1 mA in normal mode. (4.25 euros ea/1,000 — samples available now, prod qty 10 weeks ARO.)
